As previously reported in the Blerb, it was decided by the Board of Trustees that we would no longer continue with the Young Achiever Award which coincided with our Fun Day Event. In its place, we agreed that Trustees would consider the achievements of our members over the year with a view to selecting an annual Achiever that would be decided on at our April Board meeting. We also stated that we would welcome nominations from our Group members if they wanted their child to be considered for the award of a £25 Amazon Voucher.

On Sunday 15th April, we held our latest Board Meeting and we are delighted to announce Garrett Eeles as our 2018 Achiever.

Garrett is now 17 years old and has played football from the age of 6 with Acton Ealing Whistlers a community football club in Ealing.

From the age of 12 Garrett wanted to referee but could only do this from the age of 14 so once his 14th Birthday came he saved all his birthday and Christmas money and paid his £150 for the referee course.  Once he’d undertaken the course, he had to referee 6 games as an assistant referee which he did and passed.

Last year he was asked by the league to be assistant referee at semi-final games and also at one of the lower finals, which he did and was highly praised for his attitude being awarded Young Referee of the Year at the end of last season.

This year he has progressed onto older age group games and has been put forward for the promotion scheme which means that as well as youth teams, he will have to referee adult teams. He has also been asked to be assistant referee for the main cup final for the U17/18 age group – this was achieved from his marks from the teams throughout the season and also commitment to Harrow Youth League.
